Full scale airport exercise conducted every three years

8:30 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 – Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport, Long Term Parking Lot E, 2000 Post Road, Warwick, RI.

Warwick, RI – The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) will be joined by the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) and other state and federal agencies to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise designed to test the capabilities of airport and community emergency response staff in the event of an aviation incident.

The exercise will be held at Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) on Saturday, September 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Local, state and federal responders will be among the participating organizations for the exercise on Saturday, which will primarily take place in Long Term Lot E next to the airfield. The training will not affect regular airport operations, involve any environmental discharge, or impact local roadways of communities bordering the airport.

Numerous vehicles and fire response apparatus will be involved to practice fire mitigation on an aircraft “trainer,” and practice other emergency response protocols however there is no need for community concern. Additional fire and emergency response activities will also be conducted from September 12 through September 13. Signage within the airport will notify travelers of ongoing emergency exercises during this period to inform passengers of on-field training. Members of the media planning on attending should plan to be at the airport as of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning for coverage of the on-field exercises from a designated media staging area and observation site. RIEMA is actively seeking volunteers to take on the role of victims and family members of travelers. Individuals wishing to participate can contact [email protected].
